Miri & Brunei

Shoe shop

In Miri we were reconnected back to the world of Internet only to find out that flights to the Kelabit highlands and Bario were not available for like two weeks.

Tritonia road!

We then decided to head for Brunei and took a bus to its capital Bandar Seri Begawan, better known as BSB.

View from our hotel window in Brunei, oh Canada
First thing after checking into a hotel in BSB we went to see the biggest tourist attraction, the mosque. They gave us robes like this when we went in.

Next to the mosque there is the second tourist attraction of BSB, the water village. It is quite a large area of houses built on the water on stilts in the center of BSB.

Jase enjoying the shade like the locals do

Since there is no beer or any other alcoholic drinks served in Brunei we had to find some other ways to spend the day in the small capital of this country. Taking funny pictures of geometric statues seemed to do the trick..haha.

The next morning we took the eight hour bus ride to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. To get there overland it took us eight immigration controls. Brunei consists of two seperate parts so we had to first leave Brunei, enter Malaysia, leave Malaysia, enter Brunei again, leave again then enter Malaysia for the second time, then leave the state of Sarawak and enter Sabah. Crazy and almost two pages of our passports full of stamps from the same day!
